Ivanchuk in Montreal

by Macauley on July 30th, 2007

Chess.FM logoYesterday I managed a little face time with Vassily Ivanchuk, winner of the 2007 Montreal International Tournament Impresa. While I’m grateful he took a few minutes to speak with me after it was all over, he wasn’t exactly dying to be interviewed, despite winning BOTH the main event and the blitz tournament in fine style. I try to treat chess players like I would other professional sports figures. Sometimes I wish they’d return the favor, and try to enjoy the limelight.

Anthropets! That’s the name of the conference I couldn’t remember — the people dressed up like their favorite characters… :)

Interesting. Will it succeed? I hope so, but it won’t be easy.

“Today in Dortmund”

by Macauley on July 2nd, 2007

ChessFM logoThe first day of ICC’s Chess.FM webcast coverage of the Dortmund super-tournament started a little differently from the rest. But you wouldn’t know it from the ICC Chess.FM OnDemand replay (ICC membership). Ostensibly due to “sound quality issues” my intro was cut from the archived show. Yes, I know it was unorthodox, and clearly a little silly, but I hope some people were amused at least, and to that end I’m pleased to present the way the June 23rd show REALLY started…
